Has Kelly Clarkson Put on Weight Again?

Divorce, thyroid problems, an aversion to being pressured to await a sure way... Kelly Clarkson and Mayim Bialik found a lot of common footing during the popular star's appearance on the latter's podcast, Mayim Bialik'southward Breakdown.

Fresh from gardening and feeling "comfortable," Clarkson wore pigtail braids and nary a stitch of makeup as she appeared over Zoom for the interview. She cited her casual appearance as she discussed her challenge to exist true to herself regardless of her fame.

"I think the biggest matter for me in my whole career is, just being me has been really hard," the talk bear witness host, 39, revealed, gesturing to her confront equally she added, "Like, no manager would ever want me to do this — I have no makeup on."

The low-central look would be at odds with the Hollywood epitome she's been pressured to project in the past, she noted.

"Everybody would ever micromanage everything and try to become you to be somebody that you lot're not, and the hardest part has been being me," Clarkson said. "So I recollect that's been the hardest challenge, I guess I'd say, with mental health."

That struck a chord with Bialik, 45, with the 45-twelvemonth-old Call Me Kat star sharing how she besides has gotten pushback for not wearing makeup, wearing likewise much blackness or not losing weight. Clarkson, meanwhile, has learned to let critical comments roll off her back. She credits a detail moment with helping her realize the futility of trying to change herself to delight others.

"I was sitting in a room total of — no offense, I love men, I love older men, they're smashing — but I was sitting in a room full of men that were far older than me telling me what I should be like, what I should say in interviews, what I should sing, and I'k similar, 'You don't even listen to me. You're not even my core audience. Similar, how would you lot know?'" Clarkson recalled. "I realized in that moment, I will never please anyone. I won't. You can't delight them all."

That's true for what comes out of her mouth — noting the pushback she often gets over what she shares on her talk evidence — and for how she looks.

Her philosophy substantially boils down to "I'grand going to do what I want to do in that moment."

"I go out of my glam room and I am like, 'Harry freaking Potter but got ahold of my face. I don't even wait like the same human,'" she joked. "But in my every day? Nah. I'm not going to go dressed up to get to Target or hang out with my friends."

And she certainly plans to resist whatsoever pressure to undergo cosmetic procedures as she ages.

"I'm gonna look like a total Shar Pei, like a dog," she quipped. "I'one thousand gonna have every wrinkle in the world on my face. It has cipher to do with me being amend than somebody who gets something washed to their confront; I am agape of stuff called botulism toxin... It's literally chosen botulism toxin, and I'm like no.

"Any needle that goes in my body is either taking blood to bank check my thyroid," added the vocaliser, who besides spoke almost her hypothyroidism and other health concerns in the episode. "That's non me being in a higher place it — I'yard terrified. If I weren't terrified, I would be sitting right here with some double Ds, I'thou gonna be real with y'all, because I never had big boobs and I ever wanted big boobs, but I'm terrified and I would never get a boob task. Why would I cut myself on purpose?"

Instead, she'south learning to embrace both aging — "I hope people run across that this is what it looks similar, this is how you lot await when you get older," she says of the prospect of growing old on camera — and her body.

"My trunk is an bibelot; it should be studied when I dice," Clarkson said every bit she described keeping a wide range of sizes in her closet. "I can literally gain two sizes, or lose ii sizes, from forenoon to lunch. It is the weirdest thing; information technology'south all inflammation, whatever."

The American Idol winner besides spoke candidly virtually mental health, likening fame to growing up in a modest boondocks where everyone knows everyone's personal business.

"Information technology was just on such a global level that I call up it was overwhelming," she said of a low moment after touring for her 2004 album Breakaway in which she "literally started hysterically crying" in her Texas garage afterwards realizing she couldn't simply quietly popular to the store anymore.

"I needed milk only I just didn't want to run across people because I was empty," she told Bialik and her co-host and boyfriend, Jonathan Cohen. "I was like, I have no fuel. Information technology's not that I didn't want to be overnice, I simply had no fuel, and I was rundown. I didn't know that I could say 'no' yet. And as a girl, especially from the south where I'g from, you don't desire to announced lazy or bitchy or all the things. I didn't really have that knowledge in my core yet."

"'I tin can't accept it dorsum,'" she remembers repeating to her bewildered brother. "You lot tin can't take it back. Y'all're merely famous. Fifty-fifty if it doesn't piece of work out and you lot're non famous anymore — your career goes to crap or whatever — y'all're still famous, like people still know who you are in a lot of places."

Similar Bialik, Clarkson is a divorced mom of ii, splitting from husband Brandon Blackstock concluding summer. The breakdown has inspired the singer's music, she shared, revealing, "I haven't written this many songs since I was like 20... Music is your outlet. it'due south your escape and therapy."

But she's also going to actual therapy and told Bialik that she and Blackstock sought counseling together prior to their divorce.

"Nosotros weren't lining upward — no matter what one would tell me to practise this, or that — we just weren't lining up," she said. "And I guess considering I'm a child of a couple divorces with my family, it's not so weird to me that yous start out in this human relationship, you accept similar ideals, similar dreams, all those things, and that can change, and people can change and things go altered. We were in at that place and neither one of us wanted a divorce, so that's why I started therapy; and that's why we all did, actually, in our family."

The pandemic contributed to the and so-couple's discord.

"Nosotros continue making jokes in our military camp, because it's like, 'Oh, COVID got another relationship.' It'south non just getting people's wellness, information technology'south getting people'south relationships too," she connected. "It was an farthermost surround for anybody and that went into play in the decision. I think therapy for me was only figuring out, I am one of those people, I will but go on doing something [slapping her palm] similar insanity — like expecting a unlike result, because I don't similar to requite up and I don't like to lose hope in anything, and I remember anybody tin can modify. I'm such a Pollyanna in that sense."

She added, "I needed to talk to someone outside of myself and I think that that's and then important for anybody... It'southward nice to take someone outside of your circle, outside of your life and it's someone that you are merely completely and totally honest about everything that mayhap you shouldn't tell people."

While opening upward to a "stranger" felt weird at starting time, Clarkson said that the therapy process has been "really healthy" for her.

"Nothing'due south going to get fixed but past beating the same expressionless equus caballus," she said. "Nothing's going to get resolved if you're both not willing to work towards that same goal, that same vision that you lot have for each other. And that's not a horrible thing. That was the matter likewise — I recollect if you're from divorce, like as a kid you lot're similar, 'I will never practise that. Like, I never want to put my kids through that. I never would do that.' And I was so against it. And, I don't know, I tried so hard, and I think people do. You lot endeavour and it doesn't work."

She also referenced a report her mom came across that said Clarkson had had a breakdown over the carve up — something she says isn't truthful, but doesn't experience obliged to correct because it's understandable why someone going through a divorce would.

"It'south kind of a huge, horrible thing," she said of divorce. "There'due south nothing wrong with [having a breakdown]."
